Be Tobacco Free Smoking Cessation Classes

Starts first Monday of each month; 5:30-6:30pm, SMMC Cardiopulmonary Wellness Center
Four-week session: Free. Southern Maine Medical Center and Coastal Healthy Communities Coalition have joined forces to offer free smoking cessation classes to assist you in being successful when you quit smoking. Diabetes Education Program

The Diabetes Education Program at SMMC Visiting Nurses, led by Diabetes Nurse Educator Deb Dumoulin, includes assessment by a Registered Nurse and Registered Dietician. This program assists those with diabetes in learning the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to achieve and maintain good diabetes control. The goal is to prevent acute and long-term complications which result in unnecessary hospitalizations. Physician referral required; cost covered by Medicare and most private insurances. Gastric Bypass Information Session

Second Wednesday of Each Month; 6 to 7pm; SMMC
Free. Is gastric bypass the right decision for you? Have you tried the other weight loss methods and nothing seems to work? If you're considering gastric bypass surgery, then this introductory class is for you. Information will be presented about nutrition, resources, and other topics to help with the lifestyle and emotional adjustments you may face. For more information, call 283-7987.

Heartsaver CPR

Courses include instruction, textbook and a 2-year certification card from the American Heart Association. All courses will be held at Kennebunk Fire & Rescue and cost is $35. Call Deputy Chief David Cluff at 985-2102 (ext. 1315) for more information.

Total Joint Replacement Education Class
Second and Fourth Wednesday of each month 2 to 3:30pm, SMMC
Free. An informational educational session in which staff members share information about what patients can expect before, during and after the procedure and stay in the hospital. Information is provided and questions are answered by a team of professionals - an operating room nurse, an occupational therapist and a physical therapist. Open to our patients, potential patients, family members and the general public. For more information and to pre-register (NOT a requirement), please call 283-7767.
